Independent Suspension
Independent suspension assemblies for camper trailers, caravans and off-road builds where ride quality on corrugations decides how much survives the trip.
Martin's Trailer Parts supplies camper, off-road, box and boat trailer components to the Sunshine Coast, freighted from our Western Australian factory. Suspension, axles, brakes and couplings rated properly for the load you are towing.
Go To Our Online ShopSunshine Coast trailers work for a living. Camper trailers head up the beach at Teewah and across to Rainbow Beach, off-road builds run the corrugations out to the Great Sandy, box trailers do tip runs and landscaping loads all week, and boat trailers get launched at Mooloolaba and Noosa. Every one of those uses attacks a different part of the trailer.
Martin's Trailer Parts has been manufacturing running gear since the 1960s, and we supply trailer spare parts Sunshine Coast wide by freight. We list every part number, description and GST-inclusive price in our online shop, so you can order the exact axle rating, spring set or brake assembly your trailer needs rather than the closest thing in stock locally.
Straight up about location. Martin's has no Sunshine Coast branch. We are a Perth manufacturer supplying the region by freight, and we would rather say so than have you drive to Maroochydore looking for a counter that does not exist.
Most wrong orders start with the wrong rating. Before you buy an axle, a spring set or a brake assembly, check the compliance plate and work from the numbers on it.
| Loaded trailer weight | Braking requirement | Parts this affects |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 750kg | No brakes required | Axles and stubs, hubs and bearings, springs, coupling and safety chain |
| Over 750kg, up to 2000kg | Brakes required on at least one axle. Override or surge brakes are permitted in this range | Braked axles, drum or disc brake assemblies, override couplings, brake cables |
| Over 2000kg | Brakes on every wheel. Override brakes are not permitted, and a breakaway system must apply the brakes automatically for at least 15 minutes if the trailer detaches | Electric brake assemblies, brake controller, breakaway unit and battery, heavier axles and springs |
Corrugations, soft sand and salt spray all wear a trailer differently. Here is what gives out first.
Corrugated tracks work springs, shackles and bushes far harder than sealed roads ever will. Slipper springs are fine for a box trailer around Nambour, but a camper doing regular runs up the beach or out west benefits from a heavier spring set or a move to independent suspension.
Beach driving puts grit into places water alone would not reach. Bearings and seals suffer first, then brake internals once sand gets past the backing plate. A rinse after every beach run and a hub temperature check on the way home will tell you more than any service interval.
A standard ball coupling limits articulation on rough ground. Owners heading beyond formed tracks usually move to an off-road hitch, which changes the mounting and sometimes the drawbar, so it is worth a conversation before ordering.
Camper builds gain weight over time. Water tanks, batteries, a kitchen and a full toolbox add up quickly, and plenty of trailers on the Coast are running axles and springs rated for the trailer they were five years ago rather than the one they are now.
Every category below is listed in our online shop with part numbers and GST-inclusive pricing.
Independent suspension assemblies for camper trailers, caravans and off-road builds where ride quality on corrugations decides how much survives the trip.
Slipper and shackle leaf springs, hangers, shackle bolts, bushes and U-bolts, in the ratings that suit everything from a tip trailer to a loaded camper.
Beam axles and stub axles across the load ratings, braked and unbraked, for single and tandem configurations.
Drum, disc, mechanical and electric brake assemblies, controllers, cables and the individual spares that wear out long before the assembly does.
Ball couplings, override couplings and off-road hitches, plus the spares that keep an existing coupling safe and compliant.
Hubs, bearing kits and seals. Worth carrying a spare set in the tow vehicle if your touring takes you past the last town with a parts shop.
LED lamps, harnesses, plugs and connectors to Australian standards, including the wiring a brake controller and breakaway setup needs.
Mudguards, steps, tie rails, toolboxes and the general hardware that finishes a camper build or tidies up a repair.
Rollers, bunks, bow stops and marine fittings for boats launched at Mooloolaba, Noosa and Caloundra.
From Caloundra to Noosa, inland to the hinterland and north to Gympie and Rainbow Beach.
Caloundra, Kawana, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Coolum, Peregian, Noosaville and Noosa Heads.
Buderim, Sippy Downs, Nambour, Yandina, Landsborough, Beerwah, Maleny and Montville.
Gympie, Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach, the jumping off point for the Great Sandy and K'gari.
Yes, by delivery. Martin's manufactures and stocks trailer parts at three Western Australian stores and freights orders to the Sunshine Coast. There is no Martin's counter at Maroochydore, Caloundra or Noosa, so orders are placed through our online shop, by phone or by email and delivered to your address.
Under the national requirements, a trailer up to 750kg does not need brakes. Above 750kg and up to 2000kg, brakes are required on at least one axle, and override or surge brakes are permitted in that range. Above 2000kg, every wheel must be braked, override brakes are no longer allowed, and a breakaway system is required that applies the brakes automatically for at least 15 minutes if the trailer separates from the tow vehicle. Confirm your specific configuration with Queensland Transport and Main Roads before you build or modify a trailer.
ATM, the aggregate trailer mass, is the total weight of the loaded trailer when it is uncoupled and standing on its own jockey wheel. GTM, the gross trailer mass, is the weight carried by the trailer's own axles when it is coupled to the tow vehicle, so it excludes the tow ball download. Both figures appear on the compliance plate, and both matter when you are matching axles, springs and brakes to a trailer.
Sand and salt together are harder on a trailer than either alone. Bearings and seals suffer most, followed by brake internals where grit gets past the backing plate, and spring shackles and bushes that wear quickly once sand works into them. After a run at Teewah, Double Island Point or Rainbow Beach, rinse thoroughly and check hub temperature on the drive home.
In many cases yes, and it is a common upgrade for owners heading onto corrugated tracks and soft sand. The right assembly depends on your trailer's rating, chassis width and existing mounting points, so send us the compliance plate details and photographs of the current setup and we will tell you what will suit before you order.
It depends on the size and weight of the order and on your delivery suburb. Bearing kits, lights, couplings and small fittings travel as standard parcels, while axles, springs and suspension assemblies go as bulky freight. Email your parts list and postcode to sales@trailerparts.net.au or call (08) 9279-5777 and we will confirm the transit time and freight cost before you order.
Our range covers the running gear that caravans and trailers share, including axles, hubs and bearings, brakes, springs, independent suspension, couplings and lighting. We do not supply caravan interior fitout or appliances. If you are unsure whether a component is in our range, call us and we will tell you honestly.
Many of our components are manufactured by Martin's in Perth, and parts listed in our online shop meet Australian Design Rules where those rules apply. Every price shown includes 10% Australian GST, with freight quoted separately based on your order and delivery address.
